PAULA BRIZUELA CARBALLO, VIOLONCHELO
(Spain, 1993) She began her studies at the age of seven with professor Fanica Sandú. In 2015 she graduated with honors at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, as a student of Ángel García Jermann.
In 2018 she earned her Master’s Diploma at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. She also received the
“Most Outstanding Student” award from Iván Monighetti’s chair, presented by Her Majesty Queen Doña Sofía.
During her studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music, she was a member of the Mahou San Miguel Foundation Piano Trio, the Albéniz String Quartet, and the Prosegur Piano Quintet. The Albéniz group received the “Most Outstanding String Quartet” award and “Most Outstanding Piano Ensemble” award in 2017. In addition, as a member of the Mayrit Quartet, she has studied at the Chamber Institute of the Reina Sofía School of Music with leading chamber music professor, Günter Pichler.
She received an Honorific Mention at the Hazen Competition in 2004. In 2010 she was selected by the Bretón Quartet to collaborate with them in the Canal Theatres in Madrid, 13 and in 2015 she participated in the “X Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition” in Warsaw.
In 2018, she won the First Prize in the International Chamber Music Competition “Paper de
Música,” with the Mayrit Quartet. The prize included a concert tour in Catalonia in 2018-2019.
She has participated in various festivals such as “Musethica”, “Concerts in the Plaza de Oriente,” Madrid or “MusaE.” She has offered concerts and recitals in important venues, such as the Zaragoza Auditorium, Spain, the Juan March Foundation, Madrid, and the Sony Auditorium, Madrid. It is worth mentioning her soloist debut concert at the Madrid National Music Auditorium in 2019. She collaborates with different prominent groups such as the National Orchestra of Spain, the Orchestra of the “Palau de les Arts” of Valencia, and the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid.
Since 2017 she has been a member of the Teatro Real Symphony Orchestra, Madrid, and
since 2018 she has been a founding member of the Albéniz Trio.
